travelling with minors

If you plan to travel with minors from Panama, it is important that you know the requirements to leave the country, required by the Migration Service of Panama.

Article 40 of Law Decree No. 3 of February 22, 2008 establishes the requirements and formalities that must be fulfilled by any Panamanian minor or resident upon leaving the national territory.

Article 40: The departures from the national territory of any Panamanian or foreign minor under any migratory category, will be allowed in the following cases:

1. The child must be accompanied by his mother and father.

2. If accompanied by one of their parents and the parent has the written authorization of the other, it must be duly authenticated by a notary public.

IF THE AUTHORIZATION IS ENDORSED BY A PUBLIC NOTARY IN E.E.U.U. THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE AUTHENTICATED BY THE CONSULATE OF PANAMA IN THE US.

3. If accompanied by one of their parents and holds the letter that stays the authorization of the judge duly authorized to do so, and in case of the loss of one of the parents, the death certificate of the absentee will be added.

IN CASE THE DOCUMENT IS SIGNED BY THE JUDGE OR BY A PUBLIC NOTARY IN E.E.U.U. THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE AUTHENTICATED BY THE CONSULATE OF PANAMA IN THE US.

4. If accompanied by a third party must submit written authorization of both parents as established in numerals 2 and 3 of this article.

IF THE AUTHORIZATION IS ENDORSED BY A PUBLIC NOTARY IN E.E.U.U. THIS DOCUMENT MUSTBE AUTHENTICATED BY THE CONSULATE OF PANAMA IN THE US.

5. If the underage person travels alone, he / she must present the written authorization of both parents, as established in numbers 2 and 3 of this article.

IF AUTHORIZATION IS ENDORSED BY A PUBLIC NOTARY IN E.E.U.U. THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE AUTHENTICATED BY THE CONSULATE OF PANAMA IN THE US.

In addition to the requirements established in Article 40, the following documents must be submitted:

1. Original birth certificate of the minor.

2: Those born in Panama that carry passports of other nationalities, must also be registered by the provisions of Article 40 of Law Decree No. 3 of February 22, 2008.

NOTE: Foreign non-resident minors are excluded from this provision.
