Requirements for Civil Marriage
For one or more Panamanians that reside in the District of Panama
Birth Certificate (Civil Registry)
Single Certificate (Civil Registry)
Medical Health Certificate emitted by a Panamanian doctor with the 15 days before the date of marriage. It must be accompanied by:
- Biometria Hematica
- Hemoglobin Electroforisis
- Urinalysis
- VDRL Test (Venerial Disease Research Laboratory)
- HIV test or a medical certificate stating that a test has been conducted.
Birth certificates of any children that belong to the couple that is getting married.
Two (2) witnesses with an identification card (Cedula) which are not family members.
For Foreigners
Birth Certificate and Single Certificate, that must be authenticated by a Consul of Panama in the country that corresponds to that of the origin of the documents (fee is $30 per document, money order payable to the Consulate of Panama. Please include a prepaid envelope). The authenticated documents must then be taken to the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Panama (Legalization and Authentication Department), so that the Consul's signature be authenticated.
Valid Passport (and immigration card if the person has been in the country for over 30 days).
The same medical health requirements as stated above.
The same witness requirements as stated above.
All documents must be translated into Spanish by a notarized public translator.
If both people are foreigners, these guidelines are the governing ones according to the municipal family court of the district of Panama.
Present yourselves at the court assigned to matrimony, with all the aforementioned, documents, preferably three days in advance of the wedding date.
