Keeping in mind globalization tendencies and our geographical position, Panama has developed the infrastructure to complement the Panama Canal. The result is a multimodal logistic center, which contemplates the combined use of SEA, LAND and AIR for the transportation of cargo. Panama is expected to become the region's principal multi-modal logistics center in coming years. Approximately 13,000 vessels transit through the Canal every year, representing the foundation of our maritime commercial activity. It has turned Panama into a first rate commercial center, making possible the shipment of goods to and from all parts of the world. In this sense, the use of the Canal transit route works well with our Duty Free Zone, the efficiency of our ports on both oceans, our railroad and highway facilities, and airports in the cities of Panama and Colon. |

Port System With installations on both coasts, our maritime ports system has made Panama a top of the line maritime nation. Panama transships over 2 million containers every year, reason why it is the No.1 container transshipment center in Latin America. Manzanillo International Terminal is considered the most efficient port in Latin America, transshipping little less than 1.5 million TEUs a year. |

Highway and Railroad system Running parallel to the Canal, the Interoceanic Railroad (operated by Kansas City Southern Railways) was recently reconstructed and reopened. This project has modernized this first transcontinental railroad of the Americas. In a mere 45 minutes, cargo can travel the 47 mile trek from ports in the Atlantic to those in the Pacific Coast and vice versa. |
