This is due in great measure to the economic stability that our country has enjoyed in the past years, including an inflation level which is among the lowest in the world and a per capita income which is among the highest in Latin America.
Our global vision has been materialized through economic policies, centered on the principles of open market, the promotion of exports and foreign investment, competitiveness, the strengthening of our industrial base and the fulfillment of our international financial obligations.
Investments in Panama not only enjoy social, economic and political stability, but also a regulatory framework that ensures a legal environment which is fair, consistent, transparent, and pro-investor. Investments over $2,000,000 enjoy guaranteed tax, labor regime, import tariff and legal stability for a period of 10 years.
To provide additional security and financing for foreign companies that want to invest in Panama, we are an active member of the Multilateral Investment Guaranty Agency (MIGA) and the Andean Development Corporation. Panama is also signatary of an agreement of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) of the U.S.
The investment climate has been strengthened by the great efforts that our cournty has undertaken to reduce foreign debt. As a result of these efforts, Panama has received favorable credit rating from some of the most renown financial evaluators, such as Morgan Stanley Dean Witters, Standard & Poor's and Moody's.
